Work is currently underway to restore the mill's original water turbine. This will not only provide a rare working model for enthusiasts, historians, and local school parties, but a form of sustainable energy for the site.

Turbine No 4618 was built by Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon Ltd of Kendal, and was capable of producing 21.2 bhp at 500 rpm.

Refurbishment work has been undertaken in consulation with the National Trust at Quarry Bank Mill at Styal, and with Carlisle City Council conservation department.
